Like the other issues of TRANSITIONS, “The First Year And Beyond” offers the reader a plethora of information and a review of the normal achievements during the first year of bereavement. In addition to asking the reader to look back at the past year, we invite the reader to look ahead to the future and evaluate what has been learned or even gained in the process of working through the pain of loss. In light of the growth that many people experience in the first year, we offer the reader a list of ways in which he or she can reach out to others who have suffered the loss of a loved one.
In other articles in this issue, we define a trite phrase, “getting over it”– what it does and doesn’t mean. We conclude by asking the reader to consider how their beliefs and perceptions have changed as a result of the loss of a loved one.
