BEGINNING THE JOURNEY

The first issue of RENOVATIONS: Beginning The Journey Through Grief introduces the reader to the concept of grief and various stages of the grief process. In addition, this issue outlines common reactions to loss, the length of the “typical” grief journey and suggestions of what may be helpful in facilitating this universal yet singular experience. A personal business inventory and additional financial information is included to assist the newly bereaved clarify the legal and financial matters that must be faced following the loss of a loved one.

Featured in each subsequent issue is an article written by a published author expressly for RENOVATIONS that pertains to a phase of the grief process. In this issue, however, Grief Support Services President Lynn E. Ochiltree explains the program to the recipient and underscores the partnership between the funeral director and Grief Support Services in providing support during the first year following a loss.

Companion pieces of the first issue include a cover letter which explains the program and personalized information sheets that provide the family with more specific information about the loss they have experienced. Even though Grief Support Services generates and mails the materials for you, they arrive as a gift to the family compliments of your funeral home.
